Welcome to the XXIIIrd Colloquium of the Académie Internationale d’Héraldique, organised by the “Sever Zotta” Romanian Institute of Genealogy and Heraldry under the Auspices of the Royal Family of Romania and in cooperation with the “Moldova” National Museum Complex and the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași.

When?
The colloquium starts on Wednesday, 27 August 2025 and it ends on Saturday, 30 August 2025.
How to reach Iași?
Please note that there are direct flights to Iași from a number of European countries, such as Belgium (Bruxelles), Denmark (Copenhagen), France (Paris), Germany (Memmingen, Dortmund), Italy (Bergamo, Rome, Venice), the Netherlands (Eindhoven), the United Kingdom (London), and Spain (Madrid, Barcelona).
There are also direct flights and a railway connection from Bucharest, should you find it easier to fly to Bucharest first. If you plan to travel by train from Bucharest to Iași, please be aware that the journey takes approximately 6-7 hours. While the train offers scenic views and a chance to relax, it’s best to plan your trip accordingly to ensure a smooth arrival.

What is the theme?
The theme of the colloquium is Heraldry and particularism: national, cultural, and religious identities reflected by coats of arms. You could consider topics that fall into the following categories:
Formation, functioning, and cessation of heraldic identity.
From group to nation: reflecting identity through coats of arms.
Cultural identity and religious identity: traditions and innovations.
Toward a geography of heraldic identity: European customs and international practices.
From symbol to coat of arms: a continuous evolution in asserting identity.
Heraldic identity: West versus East, secular versus religious, and other contrasts.
Heraldry and change: heraldic identity today and in the future.
Call for papers
Proposals for presentations at the 23rd Colloquium of the AIH can be submitted to iasi.aih.2025@gmail.com no later than 30 April 2025, in accordance with the theme of the conference.
Proposals must be accompanied by a summary of approximately 400 words, a brief presentation of the candidate, and their contact details. Acceptance notifications will be sent to the applicants by 15 May 2025.
